Church Street students complete Beyond Broadway program and perform songs from popular musicals

Students at Church Street were treated to a Broadway show right from the comfort of their own auditorium last Wednesday through Friday. Fifth-grade students performed songs and dances from five famous theater productions in their Beyond Broadway show, which is a program that is funded in part by The Friends of White Plains Public Schools, who were in attendance alongside members of Grandpas United.

The show featured numbers from “The Will Rogers Follies,” “The Pajama Game,” “Cats,” “Hamilton,” and “Beauty and the Beast.” Students worked with instructors from Beyond Broadway for several weeks to prepare for the show.

Friends of WPPS provide a portion of the funds for the program, making it possible for each school to bring dance instructors to work with their students. The program has run in all five elementary schools for several years.

Fifth-grade students at each elementary school will have an opportunity to complete the Beyond Broadway program, with George Washington next, followed by Mamaroneck Avenue, Post Road and Ridgeway at the end of the school year.
